Planning and designing NEXT's new medical office space for both patients and staff
This was a 3 month long project where I studied the needs of the users of the NEXT medical office space. The group of users was unique in that it consisted of both patients and staff. Both groups require both public and private spaces.
The Problem
The space required both private spaces for personal medical appointments and confidential work as well as public spaces for waiting areas and collaborative work. The users needed flexibility as well as a feeling of comfort and ease.
Initial Explorations + Research
I studied the several different needs of the NEXT users in order to create the most effective solution. I learned that the new medical space would require public and private spaces to accommodate both collaborative and personal work.
Concept
Flex
An object or material that has the ability to flex is capable of warping or bending and reverting back to shape. It is also capable of bending easily without breaking. It is able to be easily modified to respond to an altered circumstance or condition. It is ready and able to change. An area of flexing can influence an adjacent or nearby area. As one area pushes, the other pulls. It is a constant process of back and forth and connection. All the parts of a whole are connected, and as one changes or flexes, the other parts are affected
Programming

Design Development
The design is inspired by muscle fascia in that it too will offer the ability to flex, change, and adapt. Each space influences its adjacent spaces. The push and pull effect is consistently felt. Each area is connected to make a larger whole, just as muscle fascia is a web that connects the parts of the human body
